~ CenterWatch

Different Phases

There are several steps and stages of approval in the clinical trials process before a drug or device may be sold in the consumer market.
Clinical trials have four phases; to help you understand in simple terms:

Phase I

Measures the safety of the Drug

Phase II

Measures the efficacy
(producing the desired result) of the Drug

Phase III

The Drug is effective; however, measured in a much larger patient population.

Phase IV

The Drug has been FDA approved, comparing medication with other similar medications already out on the market.
